What you can ask Claude Code or Codex to do in Spindle
Your agent can describe your entries, fill in the time you forgot to track, fix or split an entry, run the timer and answer questions about your time. It writes descriptions itself, and proposes time for you to add.

Once Spindle is connected to your agent, such as Claude Code, Codex or Claude, you can ask it about your time in plain words, from any session. It can describe your entries, fill in the time you forgot to track, fix or split an entry, start and stop the timer, and tell you where your time went.
One rule covers all of it: the agent writes descriptions and runs the timer itself, and only proposes time. New entries and changes to times, projects or splits wait in Spindle until you add them. See Reviewing time your agent proposes.
Describe your entries
| You ask | What the agent does |
|---|---|
| “Describe today’s entries in Spindle” | Fills in the empty descriptions from the work you did during each entry |
| “Describe last week’s entries in the style of the project” | The same for a week, with the project’s recent descriptions as examples |
| “Rewrite yesterday’s descriptions with the ticket numbers first” | Replaces descriptions you wrote, because you asked it to |
| “Set the task of today’s Acme Web entries” | Picks each entry’s task from the project’s open tasks |
- It fills in only empty descriptions, unless you ask it to replace yours. It never clears one.
- A split entry gets a description for each project, each about that project’s work, since each project’s reports and timesheets show only their own part.
- It sets a task only from the entry’s own project, and not on split entries.
- Locked entries are skipped, and the agent hears why.
A description goes in at once. “Undo that” takes back the agent’s last change, for the entries still as it left them.
Fill in time you forgot to track
| You ask | What the agent does |
|---|---|
| “Fill in yesterday in Spindle” | Finds the time when your agents worked and nothing was tracked, and proposes entries for it |
| “I forgot the timer this morning, I was on Acme Web from 9:30” | Proposes an entry with the time you give |
To find missing time, the agent asks Spindle when you were working with Claude Code or Codex and no entry or waiting proposal covers that time, for up to 7 days at once. Each stretch comes with what the agent needs to describe it: the projects you prompted in, their branches, and the session titles if you sync them. An agent that has the project at hand reads your commits from that time itself.
This needs activity sync, so that Spindle knows when your agents worked. See What the agent sees.
- Stretches less than 20 minutes apart count as one.
- Stretches shorter than 5 minutes are left out.
- Only work with agents shows up. For meetings, calls and anything else, the agent proposes what you tell it, or asks you.
Each proposal comes with the agent’s reason, such as “Claude Code in acme-web, 9:32–10:58”.
Fix or split an entry
| You ask | What the agent does |
|---|---|
| “My timer ran on after I stopped yesterday” | Proposes ending the entry when the work ended |
| “Move the 15:00 entry to Acme API” | Proposes a change of project |
| “Split this morning’s entry between Acme API and Acme Web” | Proposes a split, with a description for each project |
A change can be to the start, the end, the project, the task, the split or the description of an entry. Like new entries, it waits for you to apply it.
Spindle also suggests splits on its own, from when you sent prompts to which project. See How suggestions are made.
Run the timer
| You ask | What the agent does |
|---|---|
| “Start the timer on Acme Web” | Starts it now, with the description, project or task you name |
| “Continue yesterday’s pricing page entry” | Starts the timer with that entry’s description, project, task, tags and split |
| “Stop the timer” | Stops it |
- Starting the timer stops the one that’s running, at the moment the new one starts.
- Stopping the timer leaves it running if the workspace requires details the entry doesn’t have yet, and tells the agent which.
Ask about your time
| You ask | What the agent does |
|---|---|
| “What did I work on this week?” | Reads your entries and sums them up |
| “How much billable time did I have on Acme API in September?” | Reads your report for up to a year, by project, client, task, tag or description |
| “What’s running right now?” | Reads the timer |
The agent sees only your own time, as Spindle’s reports count it, with each part of a split entry on its own project.
Follow up on what it proposed
| You ask | What the agent does |
|---|---|
| “What happened to what you proposed?” | Says which proposals were added, changed or discarded in the last week, and which still wait |
| “Take those back” | Withdraws the proposals that still wait |
Good to know
- The agent writes in your language and style, from your recent descriptions, unless you ask for something else.
- The agent works in the workspace you chose when you connected it.
- What the agent gets goes to its provider. See What the agent sees.
