Reviewing the day's suggestions

The day's review collects every split Spindle suggests and every stretch of agent work nobody tracked, for a day or a week, so you can take them in one go or one by one.

On this page

The day’s review is where suggestions wait. It shows a day, or a week, with every suggestion in its place: take each with one click, change it first, put it off, or take them all at once with one Undo. How the suggestions themselves are worked out is in How suggestions are made.

Opening the review

  • The menu bar on a Mac, or the notification area on Windows: “Today: 3 to review”.
  • The day headers in the entry list and under each day in the calendar: ✦ 3 to review.
  • The calendar’s header: Review Day (3), or Review Week (5) in the week view.
  • Above the timer, a card for the last day with something waiting, up to three days back, such as “Yesterday: 3 to review”. Not Now hides it for that day.
  • A reminder, if you turn on Remind me to review the day in Settings › General: one notification in the two hours after your working hours end, when the day has something waiting.

What is in it

The review lists, in the order of the day:

  • Splits for finished entries on one project, strong and weak alike. Each shows the prompts behind it, and a weak one says how much of the time the prompts cover.
  • Splits whose work changed, when a project of a split went quiet or another joined while the timer ran, and nobody answered the offer then. These come from the desktop app that saw the timer run.
  • Agent work nobody tracked, as in the calendar.

The day’s other entries sit between them as quiet rows, and a strip of the day outlines what is waiting; click an outline to go to its item. A week shows the items day by day. Running entries, locked days and entries you kept as they are aren’t in it.

Each item says what the time is now and what one click makes of it, such as “Acme API 1:24 → Acme API 0:44 · Acme Web 0:28 · Internal 0:13”, or “Nothing tracked → New Entry Acme Web 0:47”.

Answering an item

Button What it does
Split, Split at 10:42, End Split at 11:05, Add Entry Takes the item with one click.
Change… Opens the editor with the suggestion filled in. The review comes back when you’re done.
Not Now Takes the item out of the review. The ✦ beside the entry and the block in the calendar stay.
Take All (4) Takes every item one click can take, and leaves the rest.

An answered item keeps its place, marked “Split saved”, “Added Acme Web 16:10–16:57” or “Not Now”, with its own Undo until you close the review. A bar under the header counts what is done, such as “2 of 5 done”, and the review says “All done” once nothing waits.

Take All has one Undo for everything it took, and says what it left: “Saved 3 suggestions · 1 needs a project or details”.

When one click can’t take an item, Change… is its main button and the row says why: “Needs a task on Acme Web. Change… to add it.” or “In repositories without a project. Change… to choose one.” A folder without a project can also be linked right in the row.

Keyboard. ↑ and ↓ move between items, Return takes one, E opens it in the editor and ⌫ is Not Now. ⌘← and ⌘→ go to the day or week before or after, and Esc closes the review. On Windows, Ctrl takes the place of ⌘ and Backspace of ⌫.

On the web

With activity sync on, the web has the same review, opened from the day headers, the calendar’s header and the card above the entries. It has splits and agent work nobody tracked; offers to end a running split come only from the desktop app. Not now on the web is kept in that browser. See Suggestions on the web.

Proposals from your agent

New entries and changes that your own agent proposes have their own review. See Reviewing time your agent proposes.
